The Central Investigation Bureau (CIB) of Nepal Police, located in Kathmandu, has detained two Indian nationals, Rupesh Kumar Gupta (43) and Bipin Kumar (22), for illegally operating cryptocurrency transactions of more than a billion and a half rupees via an Indian grocery shop in Kalopul, Lalitpur. On the tip-off received, the police found out that the activities of defrauding money through illegal hundi operations and trade of cryptocurrency were happening at Rajatirtha Traders. They also confiscated Nepali and Indian cash, a CCTV DVR, and a suspected item of wildlife. The suspects will be prosecuted under the criminal code of Nepal for the use of virtual currencies, operation of the hundi system, and safeguarding of wildlife parts. The matter is still under further investigation.
