The U.S. auto safety regulators have begun to investigate Tesla Model 3 vehicles because of complaints that the emergency door release is not easily identified and not conspicuous. The investigation encompasses approximately 179,000 Model 3 vehicles (2022), which have been suspected of containing a defective manual door release that is poorly located and unclear, particularly during emergencies. Electronic buttons to open the doors are predominantly used in Tesla cars and can fail to work in case of a power failure. The investigation is not a recall in itself, but it might result in further steps in the event of safety issues.
