A 28-year-old woman of Krishnapur, Kanchanpur, died after being bitten by a snake when she was in a menstrual shed close to her house. She died in the process of treatment at Seti Provincial Hospital, although attempts were being made to save her. The exploitative habit of Chhaupadi that requires menstruating women to remain in unworthy sheds is persistent in western Nepal, even though this practice was prohibited in 2017.
Efforts made by the local authority to fetch such sheds have failed, since local people have continued to engage in such practices, since they have beliefs that such practices cannot be done away with, which indicates that the creation of awareness is not the only solution to eliminating these dangerous practices.
