The women’s football team of Nepal was very close to qualifying for the AFC Women’s Asian Cup, but unfortunately, it lost at a penalty shoot-out against Uzbekistan by 4-2 after the match ended as a draw in the final. Nepal scored a spectacular hat-trick courtesy of the skipper Sabitra Bhandari, and rallied after being behind 3-1, but failed to score enough penalties as Sabitra and Anjana Rana Magar missed their kicks. This terminated Nepal’s aspirations of attending the Asian Cup after 26 years. Nepal had played outstanding matches, winning in the previous matches easily over Laos and Sri Lanka, and their dream was shattered at the time when Uzbekistan reached the first time.
