Big Tech Spared Strict Rules in EU Digital Regulations Overhaul, Sources Say

Big tech companies like Google, Meta, Netflix, Microsoft, and Amazon will not face strict new rules under the European Union’s upcoming Digital Networks Act, despite pressure from telecom companies. Instead, they will only be asked to cooperate voluntarily under a best practice framework, with no binding obligations. The new law, to be presented on January 20, aims to improve Europe’s digital infrastructure by guiding telecom regulation, spectrum use, and fibre rollout across EU countries. While the plan seeks to reduce regulatory burdens and boost investment, some national regulators are concerned it may limit their authority.
