The Kathmandu District Court cleared the main accused, including immigration officers, of charges related to smuggling visit visas, claiming there was insufficient evidence and improper action by the police. Despite Sung and others confessing and handing over bribe money, the court only found three middlemen guilty of document fraud. Immigration Officer Narbir Khadka told investigators that he was paid by travel agents and was involved in assisting people with going abroad. The District Attorney will file an appeal after getting the verdict transcript. Investigations are ongoing for a linked case.
