GM Idles Detroit EV Plant, Temporarily Laying Off 1,300 Workers

GM Idles Detroit EV Plant

General Motors is halting production at its electric truck plant in the Detroit area, Factory ZERO, through April 13, and is temporarily laying off 1,300 workers as the company is seeing less demand for electric vehicles. The plant produces electric vehicles, the Chevrolet Silverado EV, and the GMC Hummer EV, but production is being slowed as sales are declining. After big losses in the EV division and the Trump administration’s policies, General Motors and other carmakers are refocusing on more profitable gas-powered trucks and SUVs.
