Starting today, up to September 26, Nepal Rastra Bank commenced the exchange of clean notes in place of Dashain by its central and provincial offices and most commercial banks. New notes are not being printed, as in previous years, but clean notes in circulation are being issued, and each individual is allowed to exchange as much as possible in small denominations, which are up to Rs 18,500. According to the central bank, the move would make the printing of new notes less expensive, although it would help in keeping the Dashain festival tradition of printing fresh notes during the festival season.
