Hundreds of Chrome extensions are running malicious programs and stealing user data, according to security researchers at Domain Tools. To deceive users, many imitate well-known brands like Calendly, YouTube, and Fortinet. The majority of these have since been taken down from the Chrome Web Store by Google. Similar threats propagated through advertisements and phony websites were also identified by Secure Annex last month. Before downloading, users are advised to confirm ratings and make sure extensions are legitimate.
